To Build 'thousands' Of EV Fast Charging Stations By 2030
Walmart
announced plans to build a network of fast charging stations for electric
vehicles at thousands of Walmart and Sam's Club stores across the U.S. by
2030.Prior to this, more than 280 electric vehicle facilities in the United
States have been equipped with nearly 1,300 electric vehicle fast charging
stations.
Walmart
didn't say how many million fast charging stations it plans to add by the end
of the decade, but even with just 1,001 charging stations, that's obviously
good news for the EV charging infrastructure in the US. "With our store or
club located within 10 miles of approximately 90 percent of Americans, we are
uniquely positioned to provide convenient charging options that will help
people own electric vehicles whether they live in rural, suburban or urban
areas. Cars. Our goal is to meet the needs of our customers and members where
they live, and to open the way for people who drive across the country."
"With
more than 4,700 stores and 600 Sam's Club locations, approximately 90 percent
of Americans are within 10 miles of Walmart," said Walmart's senior vice
president of energy transition. The company told Reuters it plans to own and
operate EV charging stations across its nationwide network and is currently
looking for a supplier. Walmart expects to install an average of four chargers
per participating store.
Besides the convenient location, Walmart has another thing going for it -- its
chargers will be on-site, along with its supercenters, neighborhood markets,
and Sam's Clubs, allowing EV owners to pick up essentials for their families or
to recharge on-site. Eat while you're at it. Walmart also said it plans to
offer daily low-price charging to help keep shipping costs down.
